MC Coppa
MC Coppa
Hailing originally from the UK, born of Jamaican parents, Coppa spent his formative years growing up in the North of the country in the Leeds/Bradford area.
Coppa´s first musical influences and interactions revolved round borrowing (often without permission) his older brothers early 90´s hip-hop cassette tapes – favouring the hardcore stuff like Ice T, Public Enemy & Ice Cube- and digging out 60s & 70´s Soul and Reggae records from his mothers treasured original vinyl collection. It was here that he developed his love for meaningful expressive music. This love for expression would carry on till the present day, manifesting in his own self –expression through music.
In 1998, Coppa, through a mutual friend, was invited down to a local Bradford pirate radio station, to sit in on a friends radio show. From there, Coppa first got the taste for hosting shows and occasionally working on the odd intermittent lyric. Logical progression saw Coppa move to bookings across the North of UK, drum and bass mcing for the likes of Loxy, J-Majik, Blackmarket, Bryan Gee, Brockie, Fresh, Zinc, Bad Company, Total Science.
In 2002, Coppa received national recognition by becoming a regular in Bristol @ One Nation/Inform, hosting the early main room sets and later back to back with artists such as MC Dett & Riddla. 2003 Saw Coppa begin his 2 year main room residency @ the infamous national event Hysteria, alongside midlands and northern legends such as Bassman, Trigga & Spyda, others MC´s such as Skibbadee & Dynamite.
Coppa now featured on the very same tape packs that he and his friends used to fight over possession of back in 1998.
Coppa was finally a nationally recognised MC, and soon followed the offers for work in the international music arena, by people who had followed his progress from abroad and were interested in his unique style of mc-ing/performance.
